Annual Six a Side Cricket Tournament

The annual six a side cricket tournament organized by the Old Prefects Association held for the third consecutive year on 2nd July 2006 at Police Grounds Kandy.

The event is a friendship cricket tournament between Old Prefect groups to strengthen relationships among them and as a fun filled event.

The participation was above sixty and seven cricket teams participated for the tournament.

The Final Match

The finals were played between the Super Six team and the La Alfaz cricket team.

Super six scored 48 runs for three wickets on the allocated four overs.

La Alfaz were all out for 22 in the fourth over.

Super Six won the tournament by 26 runs.

Prefects Guild At Wesak Lantern Festival

The Prefects guild of Dharmaraja with the patronage of the Old Prefects Association participated for the wesak Lantern completion held in Kandy Town for the second consecutive year.

This year they have made a commendable effort to build an attractive and colorful exhibit. It was highly praised by the spectators.

1st Kandy Dharmaraja Scouts

The Dharmaraja Scouts continued their traditional Mal Dansela at Dalada Maligawa premises from 9am on wesak Poya Day.
Also they participated for the Wesak Lantern completion held at the Kandy District Scout headquarters.

The Dharmaraja Wesak Pandol the oldest Pandol in Kandy at Lake View Park

The Dharmaraja Wesak Pandol which is hoisted annually at the Hill Top of Dharmaraja College was put up this year too. The Pandol which is organized by the Buddhist Association of Dharmaraja College has a long history of nearly 50 years.

The Wesak Pandol which is being put up at the highest point of Kandy town could be viewed from every corner of the Kandy Town.

Mr Gamini the Electrical Technician from the village who has been assisting to hoist and wire the Pandol, claims over 25 years of association with the Pandol, after taking over the task from his father.

Discussion of the year plan was the main item on the agenda. Thus came to following conclusions.

The 3rd Annual General Meeting of the Old Prefects Association
12th March 2006, Senani Hotel Kandy

The 3rd AGM and Annual Get together of the Old Prefects Association of Dharmaraja College was held on the 12th of March 2006. The meeting Commenced at 11am at Senani Restaurant.

The meeting started off by all members present observing their respective religions. The president Mr. Gayan Gunawardhana delivered the Welcome speech followed by the Secretary, Mr.Prasanga Hemachandra presenting the previous AGM minute.

The Income and Expenditure report was put forward by the Treasurer Mr. Malaka Bandara.

Next on agenda was electing new office bearers for the year 2006. Mr Prasanga Hemachandra was elected as the new President, Mr. Muditha Abeysekera as the Secretary and Mr. Amila Vitanarachchi as the treasurer.

Then arrived the time reserved for new proposals and ideas for next year. Some interesting ideas were put forward by members.

o Mr. Indika De Zoyza proposed that we should form a Job bank for our school leavers which had been a long felt need. He assured his complete support in going through with the project. Thus Mr. B.P. Gunawardhana was named to carry out the necessary issues regarding the proposal.

o The idea of holding a Mid-term General Meeting was appreciated by almost everyone gathered. The idea was put forward by Mr. Randika Dissanayake.

o Organizing a system to inform members of the committee meeting discussions were also put forward.

o Several other fruitful ideas were expressed.

Master in Charge of the Prefects Board Mr. D.B.Herath addressed the meeting with heartfelt gratitude for this effort followed by the address of Mr. Sadara Tennakoon, the Secretary of the dharmaraja College Old Boys Union.

The meeting was closed with the Thanking note delivered by the new
Secretary inviting all to enjoy the lunch.

The new board of prefects for the year 2005-2006 have been appointed for Dharmaraja College.

Thirty Senior prefects and Thirty Three Junior prefects have been nominated.

Mr Thalindu Herath is the new Head Prefect whilst Mr Kavan Senevirathne and Mr Ravindu Jayasinghe will assist him as Deputy Head Prefects.

"SASYA" a Synchronized Extravaganza

The musical evening organized by the Dharmaraja College Board Of prefects concluded successfully on 11th Nov 2005 at The Dharmaraja College Auditorium. The Guest of honorus were Mr bandara Atauda and Mr Ananda Perera. The Principal Of Dharmaraja College, The President of Dharmaraja College Old Boys Union and The President of Old Prefects Association of Dharmaraja college were also present with many other guests.

The event was backed by a band which comprised of present and Past Prefects of Dharmaraja College. College Prefects, College boys and school boys and girls from invited schools performed at the event. A dance item was performed by the Swarnamali Girls College dance troop also the guest of honour Mr Badara Atauda add color to the event with his well known songs.

The event was staged as two shows, School show at 2.30pm and the public show at 6.30pm.

Olcott Trophy Cricket Tournament Dec 2-4

The Henry Stele Olcott commemorative Cricket Tournament organized Jointly By The Dharmaraja Cricket Foundation with Parent Union & Branch Unions of the Dharmaraja OBU will start on 2nd Decmber 2005 and will continue until 4th December 2005 at Asgiriya Cricket Stadium, Kandy.

The event is organized annually among the Old Boys of Ananada – Colombo, Nalanada- Colombo, Dharmaraja- Kandy , Maliyadeva- Kurunegala, Dharmashoka, Rahula – Mathara, Mahinda- Mathara and Dharmapala of Pannipitiya since 1999.

The tournament will comprise of Old Boys limited over cricket tournament as well as the School boys six-a-side- champ trophy and will be played on a knockout basis.

1st match – Dharmasoka Vs Rahula
2nd Match- Ananda Vs Dharmapala
3rd Match – Mahinda Vs Nanalada
4th Match – Maliyadeva Vs Dharmaraja

Mr J B Talwatte will be the Chief Guest, Former SSP and Dharmaraja Old Boy who has led Dharmaraja Cricket team in 1943 and have scored a century in same year in the Big match against Kingswood College.

This year the Dharmaraja Old Boys Team will be captained by dashing batsman Chapa Weerarathne who represented the school from 1982 to 1984, with Anura Fernando, Ananda Ekanayake, Ajith Narampanawa, Asanga Dissanayake, P Alwis, D Kahawatte, G Ranaraja, Mahinda Pethiyagoda, Nandana Kanagarathne, V Gunarathne, Priyantha Weragoda, Ranjith Herath, K Ulapanawa, Saman Rathnayake, Senaka Dissanayake, Senarth Jayasundera, Udaya Yatawara, Prasanna Watawela, Malraj Weerakoon, Sarath Munaweera and Harold Ranasinghe.

Past Prefects Just Miss the Cup

Past Prefects makes to the finals : Dharmaraja Cricket Foundation Six a Side Cricket Tournament :7th August 2005, Open Prison Grounds, Pallekelle.

The Past Prefects Team progressed to the finals of the Six a Side Softball Cricket tournament organized by the Dharmaraja College Cricket Foundation. However the Old Boys Union Team beat them at the Finals.

The event was open for all Dharmaraja College Old Boy Groups & Associations. The event which was organised for the second consecutive year by the Dharmaraja Cricket Foundation, with the objective to build up relationships among all Groups and Associations of the Dharmaraja Old Boys. It was held at the Open Prison Grounds at Pallekelle, Kandy all day on 7th August 2005

The Old Prefects Association Organised the Six a Side Cicket Tournament for the second consecutive year, for the prefect groups. This year around 65 old prefects were present at the event.Nine prefect teams were registered for the tournament, which was played on knock out basis. Eight matches were played including the semi final and the final.

The final match was played between the Group 2002 and Group 2004 and the winners were Group 2002. The Group 2002 scored 55runs whilst Group 2004 was only able to secure 39runs.

The highlight of the tournament was a Hat-Rick by Harsha Wijesekera who was named as the Best Bowler. Dasun Wickramarathena won the The Best Batsman award while Prsad Ranaraja was The Best All rounder.

Live DJ music was played throughout the day to keep the Old Prefects in the Dance mood.
